General Discussion / surviving the widowmaker
« Last post by HEY! MIKEY! on October 31, 2016, 05:20:34 PM »
I am hoping that someone will copy this to the Rovers facebook page, as I don't go there. A month after my heart attack at the Viewfinders GP I have had my first follow up with the cardiologist and other than taking some medications, changing my diet and a few other things, everything should be OK from here on out. I would like to thank the Rover family for their moral and financial support in this completely unexpected event. Marge,Willie, Rusty, The Scudellas, CJ, thanks for everything!  I will be at the Prospectors GP this weekend, and am going to recommend that everybody over 50 that is getting a 2017 race # , see a cardiologist so they know where they stand , heart wise. I hope to see you there, although I will be working for my 2nd place points!  Mikey V.

General Discussion / new important topic for Rovers to consider ASAP

OK Rovers:
Here is the new points scheme to be voted on this coming Thursday.
Riders have complained (some, a few, one?? nobody is saying, that a racer can earn a number one plate in Dez without ever riding a "hard" race like a HS or HH. they can rack up dez points in 8GPs, some enduros, and some euros and end up getting a number one plate.
The solution, is to separate the dez points system into a number of sub categories; example:
a GP class (of course)
a scrambles class (euros)
an enduro class (exists now)
a "dez" class, consisting of your harder, longer HS and HH events.
Each category will pay points in that specific category. and the same point you earn in that category will then be applied to an OVERALL D37 total.
So lets say you do 4 GPs and end up 10th in points in 250 novice, and you do one HH and one HS and end up 17th and 20th in the dez series and in the euros you race every event and get the number one plate.
ALL of your points will be added up and placed in an OA D37 total for the 250 novices. you may have won the euros, but your OA would be maybe 4th as the top 250 novice for the year.
This lets those that think desert racing should be the harder HH and longer HS races get their own points and feel keep some other 250 novice that did 8 GPs, an enduro, a euro or two, from getting the #1 plate in Desert racing without ever DOING a so called hard core dez event.
I plan to vote for this plan, it changes NOTHING in one regard, the same points you earn now, will still go to an overall tally. THE GUY who does the most races and does best will get the OA #1, BUT the guy / lady who does only the euros, as his/her focus point, will get a # 1 plate in that event category.
OK, I need our clubs input please before I vote this Thursday.
Also, we have a vote coming to change the vet class to all one displacement, no more 250 and under and 251 and over. This affects a number of racers bUT not too many 250's The consensus is that the 250 racers really do not suffer much disadvantage against the open four strokes and in some cases have an advantage so it evens out. and it also helps the 250 rider who sometimes finishes well, but has only a few people in the class with getting transfers. apparently getting 3rd OA vet out of 25 in the open class gets you a transfer but getting third OA but on a 250, when there are only 2 250's does not get you a transfer.
This proposal was put forth by a Rover. I plan to vote FOR it, unless the club tells me otherwise.
Finally, sign up with your ROVERS on your event entry so we get club points, then check your results, if your results are missing your club MAKE the club fix it, our club points get us the points total for our top pick on the date board night for the next years Rovers race.
